In Aweil town

After I arrived in Aweil town, had a meeting with stakeholder.
And had to do a lots of shopping to prepare for special occasion which was planned on Thursday.

In Aweil town - here as well, I could see old burnt brick buildings (similar to other bordering state capital Malakal)

At the market - unique way to carry such a many bottles at once!

Juba -> Addis Ababa -> Dubai -> Tokyo!

This time, no delay! And my seat was upgraded to Business class with Emirates between Addis to Dubai! ;-)
Surprised to see the flight from Dubai to Narita was totally fully occupied!

I'll write about Aweil trip little by little.
It was pleasant journey...

I could see "the" first class which was on the SATC movie 2!!

"Tebasaki" lunch

Another Japanese lunch!
Tebasaki (Japanese style chicken wing) & Chirashi zushi (Mix style sushi).
Everytime, my friend cooks such a fantastic Japanese food in Juba, I reconfirm that I need a series of cooking lessons & innovative idea to utilize local materials.

Someday someday someday....

At the end of the day...

My mission to Malaakal was just 2 nights and 3 days.
At the end of the day, we go home...

UNMISS compound in Malakal where we are situated
*UNMISS=United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan

And go to "Hard Rock Cafe(!)",

They serve you BBQ on Friday night!

And have exceptional beer(since usually I'm not a drinker at all!) seeing this great sunset!

For me, this is one of the very African sunset...
Sunset in very vast yard... (even within the compound!)

Central Market (Forgot the name but Suk XXX...) in Malakal

Price is much higher than in Juba

Malakal office colleague told me that one small bottle of water (500 ml) costed  SSP 7 last week!
In Juba, it costs only SSP 1...
All the price in the market increased due to the closed road from North.

At one bakery

The bread was just baked! Soft & delicious!!
I wanted to suggest them to open a sandwich shop or pizza shop!

From North...

Old brick(burned one) structure
 - I could identify quite many of old structure with this type of bricks

Tukul in Malakal
- The steel pole is used for roof structure which I never saw in Juba
- I could see many Tukuls with brick walls in town

In Malakal town, I found their uniqueness from the building structure and materials which I don't see in Juba.
The local people told me that those materials come from North, of course...

Malakal, Upper Nile State

Boys who operate mobile phone on the Donkey ;-)

The main street was still filled with rain of a few days ago

Finally, after 3 months, I went on my first mission outside of Central Equatoria State where the capital is located. Malakal is state capital city of Upper Nile state which is one of the bordering state with North.

My first impression was "Vast!", "Green!" & "Muddy!".

Children @ Refugee Settlement

Refugee children from Ethiopia.
In this settlement, we have temporary school & clinic by Japanese government.
Now we are updating these to permanent structure which can be benefited for local community around the settlement.

We use different terminology for refugee "camp" & "settlement".
In "camp", they only have small space to live relying on distributed foods.
In "settlement", they can have plot with certain size, construct semi-permanent structure & cultivate the land to become self-reliable.

Long queue...

Waiting for the fuel...

We can find long queue in the bank as well. I admire people here's big patience to be in a queue for a long time...

Katsu don

Today, I had a special "Katsu don(Japanese pork cutlet)" lunch at my friend's house!
It was really really really yummy... even the egg here is almost white and looks a bit different from the one in Japan though...

Mountain? Hill?

The photo from a car on one day...

Today, I was planning to climb a mountain/hill to enjoy the view!
Unfortunately, I couldn't due to the weather... Hope I can climb next time!
