Made in South Sudan!

You will be surprised to know that we have a local brewer in South Sudan!
They produce a few lines of beer and soft drinks.
The label from Kenya is very popular in Juba but it may take wide share in near future!

Unfortunately, when I visit them on the last weekend with my friends, they said only week day is open for public. They even offer tasting as well, they said.

Do you wanna invest for the business in South Sudan? ;-)

Eid Al Fitr

Asian dishes - Gyoza, Gappao, mabo tofu, stirred squid & vege

Today is the day for Muslim friends to end their tough fasting finally.
We Japanese (Non Muslim) organized "lunch@home" together. It was really really nice/relaxing break to eat something familiar(and home made!!) to us in Africa! ;-)

Small Hut

When I see such small hut in the field. I feel guilty that we cannot reach the last miles...
The owner said 7 members are sleeping in/around this hut...

This is only one "bed" they have outside of the hut...

Jump jump jump!

Due to the internet connection problem at home, I cannot update regularly these days...
She was jumping like exercise to pump.

One day, when I visited borehole(one of our project), I learned that this is quite heavy work... (I tried but I couldn't continue...)
Most of the case, ladies and children are assigned to this task... Is there any easy mechanism for borehole to pump up the water?

Lulu with Shea Butter

One small size costs SDP 7 (around USD 2).
I forgot to take photo of main label...
My friend told me that there is one women group who makes "Lulu"(shea butter cream) here in Juba.
Since I have been trying a few times on the weekend, but I found it they open on weekdays only.
One day, after the meeting, I was passing the place and decided to drop at the "shop".

After I saw the sign at the gate of the compound,
I still had some difficulty to reach the target building and  exact room... hahaha
They have some variety of products such as bath salt, rip cream, soap and etc...
Actually it was not really a "shop" but looks like storage to me. They said they will move to "roots" as their main place soon. Actually, I could find some of their products at "roots" even before.

Soap with shea butter
Since I just heard one rumor that saying one international big company is getting supply of shea butter from South Sudan, I hope more and more women groups who makes lulu can reach such big market soon!

Ant hill bakery @ refugee camp

His bread sold out before noon!
More than a month ago, I visited one refugee camp here and I met one guy who started a bakery with ant hill.
He uses ant hill as oven! He said it is good for heat control for bakery.
His bread become very popular beyond the refugee camp and now he would like to find a bicycle to deliver his breads to more wider customers! ;-)

Unfortunately, I couldn't buy his bread since his bread sold out before noon!

My first R&R

I went back to my country for my first R&R since I had family emergency reason.
The trip was full of unlucky happenings (my flight delayed 2 days and etc...) but at least it was good to see the family and eat Sushi ;-)

But now I have an stomach infection... sigh...
